LET’S CONNECT

Venus, Maui, Hawaii, 2017

Divine Feminine. Pure. Wild. Green. Hidden. From dark into light. Shallow into depths. I see natural beauty and an innate connection to nature’s heart in this black and white portrayal of a diver. For me, this reflects the solitude and joy that is born of healthy environments.

Fresh Water, Perrito Moreno Glacier, Argentina, Patagonia, 2018

In Patagonia, the thing that strikes me the deepest is the pure, potable, fresh water. Wherever you go, the water is clean and abundant. Here is a glimpse at Perrito Moreno Glacier, our planet’s third largest fresh water source. Here she is releasing, exploding with energy. This magical place resonates with my spirit. She has retained her size despite Global Warming and symbolizes our most precious resource that runs through our body and of which we are made, water.

River Girl, Irrawaddy River, Myanmar (Burma), 2015

Hours before dawn, I walked through the quiet stillness with only holy men stirring on the streets of Old Bagan in search of a mighty vessel that would carry me South along the Irrawaddy River towards Mandalay. Once aboard, I awaited the sun on the top deck, alone and so at peace that I slipped into sleep, curled up to stay warm. The wind and the calm before the days first light must have whispered in my ear as I awoke to the most glorious sunrise reflecting in the shores all around me. With colors changing like a kaleidoscope, I moved around the ship mesmerized and entranced with my lens as my only companion. One corridor starboard particularly captured my attention and after a long while of stealing her beauty, I looped around the deck only to return in awe. In my brief absence, a mysterious angel had appeared. She was so lovely with her braid and her decorative face paint (made from tree bark and used as a natural sunscreen) and the shadow cast over her beautiful face left me breathless. I asked her if I may take her portrait.

River Girl’s eyes will meet yours across the room. Take a step back to enjoy her peaceful gaze. Pay attention to the dark side of her face. You might experience a side profile of her that is playful and auspicious.

Happy Life, Bagmati, Nepal, 2013

When I first encountered this beautiful man, his face was hardened and his temper forlorn. His hair was kept in a tight bun. But after some time with him, his expression softened. We spoke the common language of smiles, and in his eyes I saw a familiar light. Before long, he revealed his toothy grin and let me kiss him on the cheek (even though it was against his religion). He freed his golden hair to the earth’s floor and we embraced the warmth of the day as soulmates rekindled. Time stood still with my friend, and before parting, he gave me a simple blessing: Happy Life, Happy Life, Happy Life.

Veils, Flores Island, Azores, Portugal, 2016

On a pristine island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, I meditate on the vision before me. Veils of water surge over the lush cliffs. There are no native animals to be found, only miles of green. My gaze shifts down and I am awestruck with the reflection in the pool. Veils immolates the vivid and wild world that we call home. I love the trippy nature of the piece. The way it turns your mind upside down and engages a new perspective.
